Nora O’Mahony celebrating her recent birthday with Callan parish priest, Fr Willie Dalton
Among Callan’s most esteemed residents, Nora O’Mahony stands out as a beloved figure, her life woven into the fabric of the community for more than six decades.
Many will fondly recall Nora from her years working with Nellie and John Phelan at the Callan Post Office, firstly on Lower Green Street and later at Prologue, where her warmth and dedication left lasting impressions.

Originally from near Skibbereen in County Cork, Nora has called West Street home since the early 1960s.
A passionate Cork supporter through and through, Cork are destined to claim the MacCarthy Cup, a hope she shares with her signature optimism.

Nora also contributed greatly to local education, serving for many years as the much-admired school secretary in Callan CBS, where her kindness and efficiency endeared her to staff and students alike.
This week, Nora celebrated a significant birthday milestone, marking the occasion with smiles and good company.

She was pictured alongside parish priest Father Willie Dalton and, with her trademark wit remarked, ‘Not long to go now to the President’s cheque!’.
