Three decades of writing excellence celebrated in Kilkenny

Clogh Writers are marking 30 years with an exciting new project

Three decades of writing excellence celebrated in Kilkenny

Clogh Writers members with writer/artist Alice Bennett

Clogh Writers have announced the launch of Heartbeats, a unique collection of picture cards created by its members.

Born from a creative exercise in March 2023, where members were invited to take a photograph and write in response, this project blossomed into something truly special.

After many conversations and much collaboration, the idea to publish a collection of cards pairing images with words became a reality.

Each card features a photograph, accompanied by lines of poetry or evocative reflections written by one of the participating members.

The result is a cohesive and beautifully curated set of cards with a recurring theme of nature and life, a gentle ‘heartbeat’ running through the entire collection, this feeling easily guided the choosing of a title for the collection.

This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Clogh Writers, whose heart is still beating with passion for writing and creative expression.

The collection was launched by Alice Bennett, a noted writer/artist, who has lived in Kilkenny since 2000, lectures in creative writing at Maynooth University and facilitates workshops with a range of community groups.

Members involved in the project were Jim Browne, Kathleen Nolan, Nancy Geoghan, Kevin Dowling, Jane Meally, Mary Coogan, Niamh Holohan, Betty Brennan, Willie-Joe Meally, Linda Nolan, Mai Dormer and Sean Mansfield.

The Clogh Writers thank all who joined them to celebrate the launch of Heartbeats, all who supported the project and the Arts Office of Kilkenny County Council and Kilkenny/Carlow Education and Training Board for their continued support.

Cards are available in Clogh Parish Centre, Castlecomer Credit Union, Vision Ireland Castlecomer, Limetree Cafe Castlecomer or by contacting Jane at 087 6345279 or Linda at 086 3952825.

Packs of 12 cards are €10 with proceeds going to Castlcomer Day Care Centre.
