Local CouncillorPatFitzpatrick, former Chair of Joint Policing Committee, has warmly welcomed the appointment by Government of Justin Kelly as the new Garda Commissioner. Justin Kelly, a distinguished member of An Garda Síochána with over 30 years of experience in various roles, will take over from Drew Harris, who is set to retire in September.
CllrFitzpatrickextends his best wishes to Commissioner Kelly and the members of An Garda Síochána. He highlights that this appointment comes at a challenging time and underscores the vital role the Gardaí play in ensuring the safety and security of communities across the country.
CllrFitzpatrickalso emphasizes the importance of increasing the visibility of An Garda Síochána in towns and villages throughout the country, not just in Dublin and larger cities. He believes that a stronger and more visible Garda presence will greatly enhance public trust and safety.
With his extensive experience, Commissioner Kelly is ideally placed to lead An Garda Síochána in fortifying public trust and ensuring the safety of our communities concluded CllrFitzpatrick
