Gardaí in Kilkenny are appealing for witnesses following a dramatic incident yesterday afternoon that led to the arrest of three people on Maudlin Street.
In a statement, gardaí said: “Following a serious incident, gardaí in Kilkenny are asking anyone who may have information or dashcam footage to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 7775000.”
According to the statement, gardaí from Unit D Kilkenny made a fast response to intercept three suspects after multiple reports described a dark Peugeot being driven beyond recklessly on the Old Dublin Road.

Two hit-and-run collisions were reportedly linked to the same vehicle, according to a garda spokesperson.
Gardaí said the car then entered Maudlin Street from the wrong side, where members of the public tried to flag it down.

“Instead of turning around, two of the occupants allegedly jumped out and assaulted people unknown to them. Gardaí arrived on scene and with the assistance of bystanders took two males and one female into custody.”
The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, and a search of the car uncovered stolen property from Carlow.

Gardaí confirmed that the trio remained in custody as part of a full investigation into the events leading up to their arrests.
The statement also praised the actions of the public, highlighting how quick thinking by motorists may have prevented a tragedy.

“A couple of points stand out after this. The quick response to a serious hazard by numerous motorists avoided head on and possibly fatal collisions. Normal people did what they could do to stop outrageous behaviour that compromised the safety of all.”
