Call for immediate action to end ongoing 'scourge' in Kilkenny

Cllr Seán Ó hArgáin is calling for immediate action to end ongoing illegal firework activity that is regularly disturbing residents across Kilkenny.

The local Labour councillor took to social media last Thursday to post a video wherein he calls for an end to the ongoing 'scourge' of fireworks.

"It is twenty-five to 12 on a Thursday night and there has just been a loud series of fireworks explosions in the background here across the river from where I live on Green's Hill," he said.

"It is well past time when most people want to be asleep and when most people want to take a break from their day's work and when people's animals are sleeping for the night and yet we find ourselves being disturbed almost for the last six weeks by constant displays of fireworks taking place in our community.

"These are all illegal. It's becoming intolerable and I'm going to be asking An Garda Síochána and asking our Community Policing Committee in the coming weeks when it finally gets set to meet to come up with solutions as to how this can be dealt with properly.

"Proper legislation from government level is needed to ensure that people in our city, people throughout the country, are entitled to a proper night's sleep instead of two months of interrupted peace in the run-up to Halloween."
