Gardaí in Kilkenny recently took to social media to share a light-hearted yet serious reminder about the dangers of driving under the influence.

“Many people enjoy a joint on Sundays,” the post began.

“Some of our lads are partial to beef, others chicken and lamb can be tasty too. Unfortunately though, smoking a joint is not an option, especially if you want to pass through our MIT checkpoints unhindered.”

The humorous message came after gardaí stopped an unaccompanied learner driver in Kilkenny City who appeared to be under the influence of cannabis (after failing a roadside drug test).

Gardaí reminded local motorists that driving intoxicated (whether by drink or drugs) can have serious consequences, including fines, disqualification, or worse.

The message closed with a clear warning: "Never drive intoxicated. #ArriveAlive."
