Kilkenny musicians come together to raise funds for those in need

The brand new 'Kilkenny Greats, Johnny Scully and friends CD' in aid of Mary Pierce and her honourable work with local charity, 'Kilkenny Helping the Homeless' is now on sale with the local community putting their hands in their pockets and showing their support in huge numbers.

The CD was launched on Kay B’s 'Kilkenny Greats' programme, on Community Radio Kilkenny City (CRKC) before a public gathering to mark its release took place at the Kilford Hotel.

The beneficiaries, 'Kilkenny Helping the Homeless' is spearheaded by Mary Pierce who illustrated how funds from the CD can help society’s most vulnerable, aptly giving one example."“We became aware of this guy living under Ossory Bridge through Facebook so we said we’d look into it and we were keen to do something,” she explained.

"So we became familiar with this guy who had come up from Ennis and was living under the bridge so we made connection with him," she said, recalling bringing him sleeping bags, hot dinners and other useful items.

"After that we said we really loved what we were doing and we linked in with a group in Dublin," she added, where the group now offers support as well as here locally to countless families struggling financially.

It’s now widely hoped that the voluntary work can be further supported by sales.

"Music speaks all languages," Mayor, Cllr John Coonan said.

"These guys have worked all their lives to get food on the table, now they’re working hard to put food on other people’s tables," he said.

The CD can be purchased from John Joe Cullen Butchers, Ryan’s Electrical and from Mary Pierce privately.
