There was no shortage of action both domestically and in outside competition for Kilkenny clubs last weekend with the usual mix of high and lowpoints.
LEINSTER SENIOR CUP
Freebooters 1, St Peter’s Athlone 2 - Freebooters hopes of going on a run in the province’s senior competition came to an end on Sunday morning as the midlanders came back from a one goal deficit to advance to the next round.
Owen Hanney gave ‘Booters the lead on te 48th minute but the concession of goals in the 70th minute along with a cruel last gasp winner meant the home side were left bitterly disappointed by the full-time whistle.
O’NEILL’S LEINSTER JUNIOR CUP
Tullaroan 0, Temple Villa 1 - It took just one goal to end Tullaroan’s dream of a run in the Leinster Junior Cup, as a 14th minute goal from the Westmeath team sealed their place in the next round.
The Kilkenny club will be keen to turn their fortunes around when they return to domestic action over the next few days having not won any of their last three games.

JUNIOR PAT MAHER SHIELD
River Rangers 2, Bridge Utd 3 - Division 2’s River Rangers pushed Bridge Utd of the Premier Division all the way with a brace from Josh Barcoe securing the Goresbridge team’s passage through to the next round.
Barcoe gave the winners the lead after just six minutes but that lead was wiped out just 12 minutes later in what was a competitive opening.
Christopher McDonald scored his eighth goal of the season for River Rangers to draw level and perhaps gave the outsiders just a glimmer of hope that they may pull off a cup shock.
However, further goals in the 26th and 84th minutes from Kieran Timmins and Barcoe respectively sealed Connor English’s team’s spot in the next round but not without challenge.
The Ballycallan outfit lived up to the cliche of playing until the final whistle and a late goal from Richie Keoghan in stoppage time may not have salvaged the game but certainly will spur Rangers Rangers on for the remainder of the domestic season.
JUNIOR ST CANICE’S CREDIT UNION PREMIER DIVISION
Newpark 1,Fort Rangers 3 - It was a tale of two halves in the Bog on Sunday morning as the hosts after a 1-0 lead courtesy of Anthony Delaney was wiped out by a hat-trick of Fort Rangers goals.
The win means ‘Fort top the league standings with six wins from eight games with Newpark in 4th, seven points off the lead.
Delaney’s fourth goal in four games was enough to put Newpark in the ascendency by the half-time mark.
However, the away side came marching back in the second 45 minutes.
Paddy Cahill levelled proceedings up seven minutes into the new half.
The two Nugents combined for the game’s third goal in the 75th minute with Emmet netting past Kevin Rowe.
Any hopes of a Newpark comeback were put to bed with four minutes of normal time to play as new recruit Zach Bay Hammond got the game clinching winner on the 86th minute to propel his side to the top of the table.
