Kilkenny’s trainer eyes Irish Greyhound Laurels glory in Cork tonight

Lemon Joey, winner of The 2025 BarOne Racing Irish Greyhound Laurels Semi-Final

Kilkenny will have strong representation in one of Irish greyhound racing’s most prestigious events this weekend, as Murt Leahy’s Lemon Joey lines up in the Bar One Racing Irish Greyhound Laurels Final at Curraheen Park, Cork.

Trained in Kilkenny by Murt Leahy for the Short Back And Sides Syndicate, Lemon Joey produced a stunning display in the semi-finals, breaking smartly and leading throughout to record an impressive 28.09-second victory. The powerful performer came home six lengths clear of his nearest rival, cementing his place among the six finalists now vying for the top prize of €30,000.

Known for his early pace and tenacity in front, Lemon Joey has been a model of consistency throughout the competition and will carry local hopes as he bids to bring the prestigious Laurels title back to Kilkenny.

The final draw for the Bar One Racing Irish Greyhound Laurels is:

  1. Solo And Go

  2. Ballymac Brandan

  3. Ballymac Setanta

  4. Magical On Fire

  5. Trionas Tribe

  6. Lemon Joey (M)

Gates open at 6.00pm, with the action live on Virgin Media 3 from 9.00pm to 10.00pm.

Speaking ahead of the final, Director of Racing for Greyhound Racing Ireland Derek Frehill commented on Lemon Joey’s performance to date, "He’s been in brilliant form and is a real professional when he hits the front. It’s a fantastic achievement to reach a classic final like the Laurels, and I am sure he will be giving it everything on the night.”

The Bar One Racing Irish Greyhound Laurels Final takes place this Saturday night at Curraheen Park, where Kilkenny’s Lemon Joey will look to race his way into the history books.
