Storm Bram: Kilkenny households left without power as storm hits Ireland

Approximately 83 people are without power in Castlecomer in North Kilkenny as Storm Bram continues to make its presence felt across Ireland.

The ESB have apologised for the loss of supply and stated that they 'are currently working to repair a fault' and 'will restore power as quickly as possible'.

The estimated restore time is 12.15pm.

In other local weather news, the R448 at Redbridge Service Station in Newrath, South Kilkenny is currently flooded.

Kilkenny County Council are asking motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

Meanwhile, Plunkett Station in Waterford is closed due to flooding.

Bus transfers are being arranged by Irish Rail to operate between Kilkenny and Waterford.

One tree has been reported down on the L2638 Kilbline Cross on the Bennettsbridge side, and crews are on the way.

Another tree is down on the Rock Road in Thomastown.

Kilkenny County Council are aware of these incidents are are dealing with them.

After a week of persistent rain, Met Eireann said soils across the country are already highly saturated and many rivers are approaching bank full conditions, so any additional rainfall is likely to result in surface and river flooding.

The track of the storm means forecasters have put in place rolling orange wind warnings throughout the day.

The storm has already resulted in some travel disruption with Emerald Airlines has “preemptively” cancelled a number of flights from its Tuesday schedule, according to Dublin Airport.

The airport said other airlines have indicated “that they continue to monitor the situation”.

An orange warning for Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford is in place until 3pm.
