'The voice of the UEFA Champions League' spotted holidaying in Kilkenny

Legendary sporting broadcaster Luis Omar Tapia, who is known as 'the voice of the UEFA Champions League' in the United States and Latin America, recently enjoyed a trip to Kilkenny.

Posting a picture on X yesterday (December 28) at Kilkenny Castle, Tapia stated: "Día de conocer Kilkenny, Irlanda. Castillo y Museo Medieval de la Ciudad. Una de las ciudades medievales mejor conservadas del país."

Translated: "Day to get to know Kilkenny, Ireland. Castle and Medieval City Museum. One of the best-preserved medieval cities in the country."

Tapia began his career at Telemundo’s Channel 13 in Hartford, Connecticut before joining ESPN in 1991 where he began broadcasting Champions League, La Liga, Serie A, Eredivisie, European and South American qualifiers.

Over his career, Tapia has broadcast seven FIFA World Cups, 16 MLS seasons, 4 Copa Americas, 4 European Cups, and 10 CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, and European World Cup qualifying tournaments.

One of his most well-known and referenced lines is: "¡Comienzan los 90 minutos del deporte más hermoso del mundo!” - “90 minutes of the most beautiful sport in the world are about to begin!”

He is also the founder of the 90 Minutes Foundation which aims to help families and youngsters with limited resources participate in education and sports.
