Kilkenny County Council have publicly released plans for the St Mary’s Laneway and Outdoor Amenity Space Enhancement Scheme.
The proposed the project includes; the provision of a serviced café kiosk and automation of the pedestrian gate adjacent to the Tholsel, the renewal of pavement including drainage systems, boundary treatments, street furniture, public lighting, and feature lighting.

It's also proposed that soft and hard landscaping works take place to improve the outdoor amenity space around the Medieval Mile Museum, comprising existing hardstanding and gravelled areas, historic and modern paving, and burial grounds containing many historic headstones and important carved tombs.
As part of the consultation process, a public information/drop-in day has been arranged in the Kilkenny River Court Hotel, The Bridge, John Street, Kilkenny City, R95 Y104, on Friday, January 9 between 4pm and 7pm.
