Calls to move Kilkenny speed cameras to less 'predictable' locations

Cllr Joe Malone has called for more prevention measures to be taken at speed pressure points in Kilkenny City.

Two new pedestrian crossings were erected on the Dublin Road over recent months with incidents of speeding declining, according to the Fianna Fáil councillor.

Cllr Malone now claims speed vans, which commonly monitors the area, should be deployed to other pressure points until a point where speed preventative road infrastructure is introduced.

"That van should be resourced elsewhere," he argued.

"I think we should discuss it. I see it (speeding) every day on the Kells Road when I'm walking or cycling. People breaking that 50km/h and I think that's somewhere where it could be resourced," he told at a sitting of the Kilkenny City Municipal District.

"It's next to impossible to speed because of the crossings that they put on the Dublin Road," Cllr Malone told Kilkenny Live, welcoming their construction.

"I'd like to see the speed van that's on the Dublin Road occasionally now moved over to the Kells Road, Waterford Road or other roads where speed is. It's becoming too predictable for drivers as they just know exactly where to slow down and then they can speed back up," he continued.
