Spring tides, as well as heavy rain falling on saturated ground and swollen rivers, will lead to localised flooding, river flooding along the entire course of rivers and difficult travel conditions, Met Éireann has said.
Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Wexford, Monaghan and Tipperary have also been told to expect more flooding, with a yellow rain warning issued for the counties in the early hours of Thursday morning. Orange rain warnings will also come into place for Wicklow and Waterford.
Both the yellow and orange warnings will come into effect at 3am on Thursday and are expected to last until 3am on Friday. The country is still dealing with the aftermath of Storm Chandra, which caused widespread flooding.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Met Éireann's Keith Leonard said the key time will be tomorrow night as the effects of heavy rain can often be felt days after.
"The Nore, the Barrow, the Slaney and the Liffey (river) catchment are going to see very high levels right across this evening and into tomorrow," he said, but added it is still too early to say if there will be major flooding.
Close monitoring of local weather conditions is strongly advised via www.met.ie and river gauge data www.waterlevel.ie
