ROUND-UP: St Kieran's and CBC Kilkenny play out exciting All-Ireland quarter-finals

Two Kilkenny schools were involved in Masita All Ireland Post Primary Schools quarter-finals

ROUND-UP: St Kieran's and CBC Kilkenny go in search of All-Ireland semi-final spots

There was mixed fortunes for Kilkenny schools in the the Masita All Ireland Post Primary Schools Championship with St Kieran's College and CBC Kilkenny both involved in quarter-final action on Saturday.

St Kieran’s College returned to the last four of the competition following a tense, come-from-behind victory over Galway’s St. Raphael’s, Loughrea on a 2-19 to 0-16 scoreline in Toomevara.

The nine-point winning margin doesn’t begin to tell the story of a game that saw the Galway outfit lead by four approaching the final ten minutes, only for Kieran’s to register the final 2-7 to march into the last four.

It is now four victories on the spin for the College having suffered an opening round defeat to Kilkenny CBC in the Corn Uí Dhúill and sets up a mouthwatering semi-final with Munster champions, Nenagh CBS.

Meanwhile, it's the end of the road for CBC Kilkenny as St Flannan’s College of Ennis rediscovered their trademark battling spirit to overpower the local school in Bansha 2-12 to 0-13.

For much of the contest, it looked to be going CBC Kilkenny's way led by the influential Patrick Lacey. The Leinster runners-up notched the final six points of the first half to establish a five-point advantage at the interval.

But despite leading for much of the second half, a 50th minute goal from Graham Ball turned the tide (0-13 to 1-9) in favour of the beaten Harty Cup finalists with John Barry frees and a second green flag from Thomas O'Connor snatching victory from Seamus Dwyers' team.
