Planning application lodged with Kilkenny County Council
Butler and McBride Limited have lodged a planning application with Kilkenny County Council seeking the 'change of use' of an existing commercial premises in John Street Upper 'to hostel accommodation'.
The overall development address listed on the application is 49, 50, 51 and 52, John Street Upper, Kilkenny.
According to the application, the works relate to part of the ground floor level of no. 49 and the first floor level of no. 49; the ground and first floor levels of no. 50; part of the ground floor level of no. 51 and the first floor level over commercial units 51/52 (Kilkenny Shopping Mall).

Retention permission is also being sought for material alterations comprising of internal and external alterations and associated site works.
The application was received by Kilkenny County Council on February 27, 2026.

A decision is expected from the planning authority by April 23, 2026.
The decision timeframe could be extended if the local authority requests further information from the applicant.
