Iarnród Éireann has agreed a short extension to the current disruptive flood defence works with Waterford City and County Council to April 9, after which full midweek services will resume to and from Plunkett Station.
The works to protect the rail line on the approach to Waterford, an area which has been prone to flooding and disruption, began on August 25 last year, with a pause over the Christmas and New Year period.
A short extension of two weeks will allow WCCC and its contractors to move to the non-disruptive phase of the works.
Works on the flood defence programme, comprising a combination of sheet piled walls, impermeable trenches and an extensive drainage network with two associated pumping stations, take place from 8am to 2.30pm from Mondays to Thursdays.
As a result, up to and including April 9, several service alterations will continue to apply.
The 7.20am and 10.15am Dublin Heuston to Waterford services will terminate at Kilkenny, with bus transfers from Kilkenny to Thomastown and Waterford.
Additionally, the 11.00am and 1.15pm Waterford to Heuston services are advanced to 10.45am and 12.50pm respectively with bus transfers from Waterford and Thomastown to Kilkenny, and a train from Kilkenny to Heuston.
Only two of eight services each way daily between Waterford and Dublin are affected Mondays to Thursday with weekends unaffected.
