The Tallest Man on Earth will perform at St Canice’s Cathedral on August 29
A striking new live music experience is set to launch this year with the announcement of Come On Up To The House, an annual concert series housed within the magnificent 13th-century St Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny.
The series opens on Saturday, August 29, with a headline performance from The Tallest Man On Earth. Tickets are now on sale for the first concert which promises to be an incredible live show.
The Swedish singer-songwriter troubadour Kristian Matsson, better known as The Tallest Man on Earth has a rare talent for captivating an audience with just his raw, grainy voice and a guitar. He plays various string instruments, ranging from acoustic guitar, banjo and he recently picked up and started exploring the realm of the violin as well and has been wowing audiences with his raw talent and passion for the past 19 years.
Critics often draw comparisons between The Tallest Man on Earth and Bob Dylan, citing similarities in both songwriting and vocal style.
American folk
Matsson himself has acknowledged Dylan’s influence, revealing that he started listening to him at the age of fifteen. Fascinated by Dylan’s covers, he delved into their origins, which gradually introduced him to early American folk artists like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie.
However, Matsson is quick to distance himself from being part of any specific tradition, stating,
“I don’t want to be part of a tradition. I just want to do what feels natural to me. This is how I play, and this is how I write songs”.
“Music is my primary way of asking really loud questions. Most of my songs are big life questions, how to live and function in this world,” he added.
Iconic setting
Blending the grandeur of one of Ireland’s most iconic medieval landmarks with the energy of today’s global music scene, the series offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience internationally acclaimed artists in an intimate and atmospheric setting.
Curated as a celebration of both place and sound, Come On Up To The House will welcome performers more commonly found on the world’s largest festival stages, reimagined here in a space where every note resonates with history.
A second headliner will be announced next week with four more acts to follow in this exciting new series.
Tickets for The Tallest Man on Earth are priced at €40 and are available at www.set.ticketsolve.com
