"We frequently cover the detection of Uninsured Drivers and subsequent seizure of their vehicles on this page. Since the introduction of ANPR and indeed the Garda Mobility device, which has up-to-date information from insurance companies, detections and prosecutions have hugely increased. We will continue in this endeavour," Kilkenny gardaí posted online.

"We also carry out multiple vehicle stops due to vehicles not showing up as insured and upon diligent enquiry find that the driver, as head of a policy with cover to drive other vehicles is in fact insured. Other times, vehicles which are being driven on Trade or Fleet Policies may not have been uploaded but the driver is still being covered.

"Frequently, using intuition vehicles pass showing a live insurance policy but we suspect the driver is uninsured due to being disqualified or not named on the policy. Those drivers are prosecuted," the post continued.

"We also detect and prosecute the use of unregistered illegal E-Mopeds and E-Scooters, which require insurance and don't show up on any database.

"Our aim is to continue to detect and prosecute uninsured drivers and operate within the law as it stands which in plain terms is the USE of Mechanically Propelled vehicles in a Public Place must have their driver insured," they concluded.
