The Gaff and Remote will both be performed at the Watergate on April 24 and 25
Barnstorm Youth Theatre returns to the stage with an exciting and thought-provoking double bill of contemporary theatre, The Gaff and Remote, two original productions that delve into the complexities of teenage friendship, peer pressure, and social hierarchy.
Set over the course of a single evening, both plays offer contrasting yet complementary perspectives on youth culture today.
The Gaff throws audiences headfirst into the chaos of a house party gone wrong.
What starts as a “quiet couple of cans” quickly escalates into a night of drinking games, dance-offs, break-ups and emotional fallout. With sharp humour and raw honesty, the play captures the volatile dynamics of teenage social life and the pressures to fit in.
In contrast, Remote offers a more introspective and poetic narrative. It follows Antler, a young girl who rejects the digital world by destroying her phone and retreating into nature. As she isolates herself, the lives of seven other teenagers intertwine in a nearby park, revealing hidden struggles, connections, and moments of vulnerability.
Together, their stories paint a moving portrait of disconnection and the search for identity in an increasingly connected world.
This double bill showcases the talent and insight of Barnstorm Youth Theatre’s young performers, bringing authentic voices and experiences to the stage.
Audiences can expect an evening that is both entertaining and deeply resonant.
Artistic Director Janice de Bróithe, said: “It’s incredible to see our youth theatre members take to the Watergate stage for what is their biggest performance yet.
"They have put in an enormous amount of hard work, dedication and creativity to bring these pieces to life. What makes this project especially exciting is that it is truly youth-led — the ideas, the energy and the commitment all come from the young people themselves, and that shines through in every moment on stage.”
The doublebill will be performed at the Watergate on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are €15 and €12 concession and are available via the watergatetheatre.com
