The rollout of significant pedestrian safety measures at both sides of Green’s Bridge has been warmly welcomed by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Maria Dollard.

“I have been raising the issue of the safety of crossings on Green’s Bridge since 2021,” Cllr Dollard said.

“Back in 2023, there was debate in the council chamber when it was confirmed no plans were in place to reinstate the courtesy crossing at the other side of Green's Bridge.

“We were informed that pedestrians would have to walk to Troy’s Gate crossing and back again to access the riverside park.

“Of course no one does this and people continued to cross where the concessionary crossing was.

“Thankfully a new raised crossing has been installed and the situation has been rectified.”

Cllr Dollard is hoping ‘the plight of cyclists’ can also be addressed with the provision of ‘proper cycling infrastructure’ to cross the Nore.

“Current provision is concerning given the level of traffic and HGVs crossing both ways on Green’s Bridge,” she added.
