Ballyouskill Dramatic Group to be celebrated fifty years after first staging 'Big Maggie'

The actors and volunteers from Ballyouskill Dramatic Group who staged the John B. Keane classic 'Big Maggie' fifty years ago will be honoured later this week at a special awards ceremony.

Members of the Keane family including Billy, John and Joanna will be in attendance to present 50th Anniversary certificates to the 1972 cast members and their families.

Those involved in the landmark local production that have since passed away will also be remembered.

Work from John B. Keane will be presented on the night by Edward Hayden, giving guests some insight into the richness of the language used by one of Ireland's best known and much-loved playwrights.

John B. Keane's wonderful creation of a rural Irish matriarch ranks with Juno, Mommo and Molly Bloom as one of the great female creations of twentieth-century Irish literature.

Interested in attending? Free admission to The Wheel Inn this Friday, November 25, at 9pm.

The event is kindly sponsored by Sheppard's Irish Auction House.
