Fr Willie Purcell with staff and students of Clara National School
Clara National School has sent out a full load of classroom materials to the schools of the OLA sisters in Africa.
Sr Julie Doran OLA, who came to receive the materials, said Clara School and parish had provided generously for the ongoing education of schools in Africa, which have been destroyed by warfare.
Fr Willie Purcell said that last year, the parish and school sent children’s clothes and toys to the work of the Missionary sisters of the Holy Spirit in Athens, and the project is happening again this year.
“The generosity of our school and parish shows the unity with those who are suffering in our world,” he said.
Fr Purcell, who prior to the Covid pandemic went to work with the Sisters in Athens, said the plight of the migrant children there is both disturbing and terrifying.
“I have seen first hand the work of the Sisters in protecting the children from being kidnapped,” he said.
“The simplicity of toys and clothes sent from our parish and school means more than anything we can imagine to these children.”
Anyone wishing to contribute small toys for boys and girls or warm children’s clothing can contact Clara Parish Office at 056-77726560 or email: claraparishoffice@gmail.com.
