Cold snap forces League to cancel a number of weekend games

Kilkenny Sport

Freezing fog and cold weather has left a number of Kilkenny pitches unplayable

Soccer has fallen foul of the cold weather with a number of Saturday games in the Kilkenny & District League called off.

The League has announced that all under-10 games are off tomorrow - as well as all games scheduled to be played before 12 noon - as well as all SFAI fixtures. All other games are dependent on referee and ground inspections.

The news came after a fresh Status Yellow freezing fog warning was issued by Met Éireann. The forecaster says that patches of freezing fog will lead to potentially hazardous driving conditions. The warning will remain in place until noon tomorrow.

A separate Status Yellow ice warning for Ireland will also remain in place until 12 noon tomorrow.

This evening and tonight, frost and icy will stretch across the country. While many areas will be dry, some showers of hail and snow will affect Atlantic coastal counties, with temperatures of around -5C to -1C.

A Winter Weather Advisory for Ireland will stay in place until 9am on Monday morning.
