Met Eireann has issued its latest monthly weather forecast including Christmas week. 

According to the Met Eireann weather forecast, over the Christmas period, the forecast signals are mixed.

Met Eireann says there is little in the way of a signal for high or low pressure, and while the western half of the country is predicted to have lower than average precipitation amounts for the time of year, the eastern half is expected to have above average precipitation. 

Temperatures for the period will likely track the average for the time of year, though there is a slight signal for inland counties to be slightly colder than average.

The Met Eireann monthly forecast also says that over the New Year period, uncertainty in the forecast increases, though there is a signal for high pressure to build from the north, leading to drier than average conditions.

Met Eireann says that while the monthly forecasts can at times provide an insight into weather patterns in the month ahead, they should not be used for specific planning purposes as they have generally low skill compared with the 10-day forecast.
