Excitement has been building this week following the announcement that a 'college of the future' to facilitate 5,000 students is planned for Kilkenny.
On Tuesday, Kilkenny Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) were given the go-ahead to proceed to the next stage in developing a proposal for the institution.
The project envisages the acquisition of a site in Kilkenny where a new state-of-the-art education and training campus will be developed to consolidate the delivery of skills provision in one location for the entire county.
KCETB Director Martha Bolger noted that there is 'great excitement' following the announcement and that a number of potential sites are being looked into at present.
"Site reports for each potential site will have to be completed before a definitive one is chosen," she confirmed to Kilkenny Live.
"We are still in that process and engaging in active discussions with a number of site-owners."
A potential chosen site is expected to be confirmed around Easter of 2023.
FET provision in Kilkenny is currently scattered around 14 locations in the city, including an old school building and various leased facilities.
This proposal envisages bringing them all together at one state-of-the-art facility, delivering the best integrated and learning supports possible, while also providing fantastic opportunities for apprenticeships.
