Only a couple of years ago words like antigen tests, lateral flow tests and R numbers were alien concepts for many of us. Now all that has changed because of Covid.
But in Co. Kilkenny where a badger vaccination project has been ongoing for the last couple of years, all these terms are very much part of the working lives of members of the Wildlife unit of the Dept of Agriculture. There they spend their days and nights, capturing badgers in the wild and inoculating them against Tuberculosis.
Helen Carroll spent the day with the team as they go about their day working to eliminate TB from our badger population. You can watch her report from Kilkenny on Ear to the Ground, airing this Thursday, February 3, on RTE One at 7pm. The show will be repeated on Sunday at 1.10pm.
