Transport Minister to hold talks with Kilkenny TDs today over N24/N25 funding issues

Transport Minister Eamon Ryan is to meet with Oireachtas members from across the South East region later today to discuss the lack of funding available for the N24 and N25 projects.

Earlier this year, planned upgrades to the N24 (Waterford to Cahir) and the N25 (Waterford to Glenmore), roads that run through South Kilkenny, hit a funding dead-end.

Both projects were not granted a funding allocation for 2022 by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

At the time, local council chairman Pat Dunphy described the news as not only a ‘huge blow’ to Kilkenny but to the entire South East region.

“We cannot let this go,” he stated. “This must be contested. These projects are vital for business, jobs and growth.”

Local councils from across the entire South East region also joined in to criticise the decision, leading to Minister Ryan agreeing to meet with South East Oireachtas members in a bid to discuss it.

Kilkenny Minister Malcolm Noonan TD says that he has spoken to Minister Ryan about the issue in advance of today's talks.
