Kilkenny hurling legend DJ Carey and Director of Golf at Mount Juliet Estate, Matt Sandercock, will join brass bands, dancers and other community groups at this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade in Kilkenny, to celebrate the return of the Horizon Irish Open to Mount Juliet Estate.

After a hugely successful hosting in 2021, the island of Ireland’s national open will return to the County Kilkenny venue for a second successive time when the 67th edition is played from June 30 – July 3.

There has been record demand for tickets and last month it was announced that all general admission tickets for Sunday’s final day have sold out.

Tickets still remain for this year’s Horizon Irish Open Pro Am on Wednesday June 29th, where local hurling legend, DJ Carey, will tee it up once again. As part of the build-up to the event, Carey will appear in front of the Kilkenny crowds at the city’s St Patrick’s Day parade.

Carey played as part of Rory McIlroy’s team in 2021 where he was also paired with Rory’s father Gerry and Irish rugby international, Johnny Sexton.

DJ Carey said;

“It was a dream come true to play with Rory, Gerry and Johnny at Mount Juliet last year and although we didn’t win, we had a great day. I’m delighted to be representing the Horizon Irish Open at the Kilkenny St Patrick’s Day parade and I’m very much looking forward to another great day out at the Pro Am. It’s a real family fun day.”

Matt Sandercock, the Mount Juliet Estate Director of Golf said,

“Mount Juliet Golf Club is delighted to be at the Kilkenny St. Patrick’s Day Parade representing the host venue of the Horizon 2022 Irish Open. It promises to be a super tournament that will be enjoyable for everyone, not just golf fans! Spectators will be able to enjoy some of the world’s best golfers in action at the Mount Juliet golf course and there will be plenty of extra activities for the whole family and visitors to enjoy.”

Parade attendees can also test their own putting skills on the Horizon Irish Open putting green at The Mayors Walk, Kilkenny from 12-5pm on Thursday 17th March. There’s also a chance to win tickets to this year’s tournament.
