Laois Offaly Gardai have appealed for information in relation to an animal welfare incident in the midlands.

A video circulating on social media appears to show a donkey tethered to a car and being towed along a road.

The video is believed to have been filmed in Edenderry, Co Offaly.

Investigating Gardai seized a number of animals overnight and are appealing for information in relation to the matter.

“Edenderry Garda are currently dealing with an incident which is currently under investigation under Section 12 and 13 of the Animal Welfare Act. The animal has been checked over and will be recovered with the assistance of Gardaí,” they said.

“We ask that you please contact Edenderry or Tullamore Garda Station who can assist in relation to this matter. If you personally have any dashcam or footage please contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057 932 7600.”
