Sadness at the passing of popular Laois shopkeeper in Borris-in-Ossory

Husband and wife Michael and the late Frances Coyne

The death took place on Monday January 9 of Frances Coyne (nee Egan), Shanboe, Borris-in-Ossory and formerly Main Street, Borris-in-Ossory.

The late Frances lived in Borris-in-Ossory all her life where she ran a successful grocery store and newsagents and was loved by customers, neighbours and friends for her caring, gentle and friendly manner.

When she married Galway native Michael Coyne together they continued to expand the business and in 2000 they built a new grocery store and deli next door to the original shop. When they retired from the business in 2004 they built a new home in Shanboe, just outside the village.

Although the shop has changed ownership several times it is still known by the locals as Coyne's or to some older residents of the village as “Frances Egan’s shop”.

The late Frances, who was predeceased by her brothers, Fr. Denis and Sean and her sister Marie (Sr. Gerard), will be sadly missed by her devoted husband Michael, sons Patrick and Vincent, daughter Kathryn, grandchildren Ava, Sean, Grace, Conor, Emma and Eli, sister Ursula (Mulhall), son in law John, daughters in law Fiona and Una, sisters in law Elizabeth, Imelda and Kathleen and brother in law Seamus, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and a wide circle of friends.

Her remains reposed at her home until removal on Friday morning January13 to St. Canice's Church, Borris-in-Ossory for Funeral Mass followed by burial in Derrinsallagh Cemetery, Borris-in-Ossory.

Her Funeral Mass was concelebrated by her nephew Rev. Fr. John Egan S.A.C., (London and a native of Borris in Ossory) and Rev. Fr. Jackie Robinson PP.

May she rest in peace
