A request has been made to relieve flooding on a byroad in Laois that leads to the busy Portlaoise to Abbeyleix road.

Clonad near Portlaoise is the location where flooding is happening on a corner, according to Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald.

She tabled a motion to the January meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District, requesting Laois County Council to fix the issue.

"There is flooding in that area but this is one of the most severe areas, it's going out onto the road," she said.

In reply, engineer Wes Wilkinson said that the area roads office will examine the drainage issue on the L26961 at Clonad, with a view to considering it for funding in the 2023 Road Drainage Works Programme.

Cllr Fitzgerald said she was delighted at the positive New Year response. Her motion was seconded by Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley.
