Padraig Walshe led the IFA campaign for the Lisbon Treaty.
Laois Offaly's Sinn Féin TD has joined the chorus of tributes to Durrow man and farm leader Padraig Walshe.
Brian Stanley believes his fellow Laois man had a big impact on Irish agriculture.
“I want to express my sincere sympathies to Ella and the extended family on the sad loss of Padraig. I got to know Padraig when he put himself forward for President of the IFA and throughout his term as head of the organisation.
"Padraig made an enormous contribution to Agriculture and always made a strong case for farmer’s throughout the country and worked to get the best deal from the CAP negotiations etc.
"He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him,” he said.
Mr Walshe will be laid to rest on Bank Holiday Monday after requiem Mass Holy Trinity Church, Durrow.
