Warning issued over fake text messages
Laois Offaly Gardai have issued a warning about fraudulent Credit Union text messages.
The warning follows an alert from the Irish League of Credit Unions which is warning of similar messages for the second time in seven days.
“We've been made aware of a scam text, purporting to be from 'Credit Union', claiming that accounts have been 'placed on hold' and asking the recipient to click a link (to a cloned credit union website) to verify their account. Your credit union will never contact you by text or email asking you to click a link to verify your account,” the Credit Union said.
Laois Offaly Gardai are reminding people not to click on links.
“Seeing a few text messages and emails circulating scaring people into believing there are issues with their Credit Union accounts. Do not follow links.
Remember to stop, don't panic and speak to your credit union. They are alerting customers about the issues,” Laois Offaly Gardai stated.
