Heywood Community School are set to head to the National Basketball Arena in Talllaght on Thursday to play in the Girls U-19 All-Ireland Basketball final. The girls will face St.Mary's Marist from Dundalk in the decider.
They come into the game having won two games on the same day. Their quarter-final was against Kishoge CS from Lucan, the girls winning 77-58 against the Dublin outfit.
No more than two hours later, Mercy College Sligo were the opponents in the semi-final. The girls showed resilience and mental strength to get themselves into the All-Ireland final. The Laois side winning 54-32.
The team is coached by Philip Bowe, who is also the school principal while he is assisted by Keith Conroy. Gerry Conroy, a local business man who owns Offtech Ltd, went and got the girls warm-up tops for the final.
A lot of the girls play for local basketball club Ballyroan Bluestars and for a little village club, it has gone from strength to strength.
The game is due to start at 11am and it will be streamed live on basketballireland.tv
