The family of young Laois man Adam Kirwan has been left devastated and his community is 'numb' following his tragic death in a car accident in Tipperary.

Adam, aged 22, died in a single-vehicle collision in Thurles in the early hours of Thursday morning, March 2.

A former pupil of Gaelscoil Thromaire and Mountrath Community School, Adam was a student of the Mary Immaculate College attending college in Thurles.

He was best known for his GAA success on the hurling field with his club Trumera as well as for Mary I and Laois. Just recently he played midfield for Mary I in their Ryan Cup win.

He was also at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel in March 2022 to celebrate at the Trumera GAA Club Victory Dinner Dance in honour of the Laois 2021 Intermediate Hurling Championship win by the club located near Mountrath.

Adam was also an emerging talent for Laois have already represented the county at underage level.

Mountrath-based Independent county councillor James Kelly extended his sympathies to Adam's family.  He said the town was 'numb' in the wake of the death.
