Gardai advised motorists to avoid the southbound lane of M7 at Portlaoise after a crash on a stretch of the Limerick Cork Dublin motorway through Laois on Sunday night.
"The M7 is currently closed at Junction 16 southbound due to a collision in the area," Gardai tweeted.
Traffic is now being diverted through Portlaoise.
