The Laois Senior Hurlers face the daunting task of a trip to Corrigan Park to face Antrim in round five of the Allianz Hurling League. Laois and Antrim are both without a win in this year's Division 1B and this clash will be viewed as the potential relegation decider. The game takes place Sunday this March 12 at 1pm.
The bottom team in the group will face off against bottom of Division 1A, which is looking like being Laois' midland rivals Westmeath. Laois will be hoping for a similar result from last year's league as they defeated Antrim in Portlaoise to secure their place in Division One for another year. Antrim subsequently beat Offaly in the relegation final to ensure they would also be a Division One team for 2023.
Antrim have fared better against high quality opponents as they currently sit above Laois in the table on points difference. 28 points split the teams so Laois know that anything but a win on Sunday could mean a relegation decider against Westmeath. Laois will want to avoid Westmeath as The Lake County relegated Laois to the Joe McDonagh Cup with a comprehensive victory in last year's Leinster Championship.
Laois are one of the favourites to win the Joe McDonagh Cup and make an immediate return to the Leinster Championship. Laois have their names on roll of honour of the Joe McDonagh as they won the cup previously in 2019 under the management of Eddie Brennan.
Laois' final game of the league will see them face Dublin in Parnell Park on March 19 while Antrim face Liam Cahill's Tipperary. Tickets for Sunday's game can be bought here while the game can also be viewed on GAAGO.
