A councillor deployed a wise old saying to encourage Laois County Council to use council staff to fix a bridge in the Dongagmore area.

'A stitch in time saves nine', was the view of Cllr John King, Fine Gael, when he raised the issue of the damaged bridge at Raheen.

The councillor also believes the work could be carried out by Laois Council. He identified the cause of the damage most old bridges.

“They weren’t built for heavy vehicles,” said Cllr King.

Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied in writing.

“An engineer from Laois County Council will meet the Elected Member at the site to examine this request,” he said.

The issue was raised at the recent Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District meeting in County Hall, Portlaoise.
