Laois County Council is selling a number of serviced sites at a discount to prospective homeowners in the county.
In total eight serviced sites are being sold below their current market value by the council in Durrow and Ballyroan.
The four Ballyroan sites are priced at €30,000 while the four sites in Durrow have an asking price of €40,000.
The sites are being provided thanks to the Croí Cónaithe (Towns) Fund. It allows local authorities to make available serviced sites at reduced cost to support self-build home ownership.
Under the scheme, local authorities will make serviced sites in towns and villages available to potential individual purchasers. These sites will be available below the market value of the site for the building of a property for occupation as the principal private residence of the purchaser.
The council is looking at further sites in Laois which could be made available using the scheme.
The level of discount to the individual will depend on the level of servicing cost incurred by the local authority before the sale of the site with discounts up to a maximum of €30,000. The amount of such discount will be reflected in the sale price of the site to the purchaser.
