Work on a long awaited footpath in Stradbally will get underway next week.

Cllr Paschal McEvoy spoke of his delight that the project was going ahead at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.

“The footpath from Stradbally to the graveyard is starting next Wednesday,” he said.

He expressed his thanks to council staff and said the project was one of the first issues he had ever had a motion about.

The footpath from Stradbally to the graveyard will be “very  much appreciated” by the community, said Cllr McEvoy.

“It is great news for Stradbally,” he said.

Cllr McEvoy said there would also be a pedestrian crossing at the location. He hoped the footpath would be completed in the coming months.

Cllr Aidan Mullins said he was delighted to hear work on the footpath was going to begin. He complimented Cllr McEvoy on the matter. Cllr Ben Brennan and Cllr Padraig Fleming also expressed their delight that the footpath was finally going to be constructed.

Describing it as fantastic news, Cllr PJ Kelly said he too was delighted and he noted that former Cllr Tom Mulhall would have worked to try and have the footpath constructed.
