Laois council called on to repair a potentially fatal bridge

Bridge lost its coping stones

Stones crucial to stopping water getting into a Cullohill bridge to ensure it is structurally sound went missing but the council committed to fixing the problem.

Cllr Ollie Clooney, Independent, raised the issue of repairs to the wall adjoining the bridge at Ballynevin, Cullohill in a motion tabled at a recent Laois County Council meeting.

Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied that coping stones were missing from the parapets but the local authority would do the repairs.

Cllr Clooney welcomed this but added that some crashes had caused other damage. He also called for a sign to improve safety at what was a potentially fatal location as there have been a number of crashes.

The matter was raised at the April Borris-in-Ossory Moutmellick Municipal District meeting.
