Drop in public order and criminal damage in Laois

There was a decline in recorded criminal damage and public order offences in Laois in the first quarter of 2023.  

The figures were read out at a recent quarterly meeting of Laois Joint Policing Committee in Portlaoise. The figures compared crime statistics from the first three months of 2023 and 2022.

Superintendent Eamon Curley said there was one incident of criminal damage by fire, down from three during the same period in 2022.  

There were 79 criminal damage incidents down from 91 and Supt Curley said 15 of those were ‘detected’ offences. 

There were 40 incidents of drunkenness, down from 51 during the same three months in 2022. 

There were 72 public order offences, a slight decrease on the 74 recorded during the same time in 2022.

  

Laois Gardai recorded a total of 192 criminal damage and public order offences in the quarter, down 12% on the 219 in 2022.
