A Laois animal welfare charity has appealed for volunteers and foster carers for animals.
Laois SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) said it is “desperate” for foster carers and its few volunteers are exhausted.
“We are in desperate need of fosterers for dogs and cats as we don't have kennels or cattery, despite neutering schemes for both dogs and cats this year we are still inundated with kittens being found everywhere, no doubt from the people who could not be bothered to take advantage of our excellent offer,” Laois SPCA said in a social media post.
“All food and vet expenses paid by us, all we ask of you is your time for a few weeks,” the charity said.
“We also need help with TNR ( trap, neuter and return). This entails going out to sites with feral cats, setting the trap then taking to a vet. After neutering they can be returned to the area they know. This is the only way to reduce the numbers but we need help. A person with experience will go out with you and show you the routine,” they said.
“We are very short of volunteers and the few we have are exhausted! Please message our Facebook page if you feel you could help out in any way,” Laois SPCA concluded.
