€120,000 funding boost for Laois heritage projects

Almost €120,000 has been allocated towards five Laois Heritage projects. 

The funding, which is being delivered through the Heritage Council, will go towards seven projects in Laois. 

The investment includes €5,443 set aside for the Abbeyleix Bog project, €2,542 for Clough Tidy Towns for Graveyard mapping of Clough and Bordwell, €2,134  for Donaghmore Famine Workhouse and Agriculture Museum, €5,810 to the Col Fitzmaurice Commemoration Society for the Conservation and Digitisation of the Col Fitzmaurice Commemoration archive. 

A further €33,000 has been allocated to Laois County Council for conservation measures and €50,000 has been granted to Historic Houses of Ireland for conservation projects in Laois. A further €20,000 is  going to a Nore Vision (NRCT) for a project in Laois and Kilkenny. 

Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Sean Fleming welcomed the funding for Laois heritage projects. 

The Government funding through the Heritage Council grant will go towards supporting seven heritage-led regeneration plans across Laois, he explained.  

“I’m glad that the Heritage Council has approved almost €120,000 worth of grants for local heritage-led regeneration projects in Laois.  

Our rich heritage needs to be protected and this funding will ensure important conservation projects continue in Laois,” said Minister Fleming.
