The Emo U-15 Rounders Team
It’s been quite a few months on the rounders scene in Laois with impressive starts to the adult championships from The Heath and Emo respectively.
But yet again, its Emo juveniles making the headlines with an All-Ireland double after winning the U-13 boys Féile along with their U-15 boys claiming gold in the John West Féile Na nGael tournament.
In its tenth year, the club are still going from strength to strength having teams at every level of the game. After years of success underage, Emo are now starting to flex their muscles at adult level in their second year.
In the Junior ladies, they have had an impressive start to their campaign with victories against Myshall of Carlow, Glynn/BFéarntown of Wexford and St Kierans of Limerick and a semi-final is all but guaranteed.
Their intermediate mixed have earned a semi-final place but what is not known is will they finish top or runners up in their group, with their only loss coming from the hands of Raheen of Wexford in a 16-15 thriller.
The last Emo team in action have been the senior men who have had a difficult start to life in the senior men’s championship after promotion last year. They lost to neighbours The Heath and suffered big defeats to Carrick of Monaghan and Limekiln of Dublin.
However, after learning from their defeats they have stopped the rot by beating last year’s semi-finalist Cuchulainn of Carlow and in the next few weeks they will either be fighting for their senior status or whether they could sneak a semi-final place.
Over the road on The Heath, both their senior men’s and senior mixed teams are in a good position in their league standings and are very much in the driving seat to qualify for the semi-finals after beating current champions in both codes with the men overcoming Erne Eagles of Cavan and the mixed putting in a great performance against Cuchulainn of Carlow.
