Drainage works are to be carried out in Timahoe where a ‘massive flood’ occurred in recent weeks.

Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy raised the issue in a motion at a recent meeting. He asked:  “That this Council address the flooding on the Portlaoise Road, Timahoe outside Old Mill.”

Speaking at the June meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District in Portlaoise, Cllr McEvoy said “yesterday there was an absolutely massive flood on the road.”

“It was going to be drained into the river there,” said Cllr McEvoy, noting that the work had yet to take place.

In response, Senior Executive Engineer,  Philip McVeigh said, “Laois County Council has inspected this location and will arrange to carry out these drainage improvement works as soon as possible.”

The motion was seconded by Fianna Fail Cllr Padraig Fleming.
