The first score didn’t come until the fourth minute as Maeve Hennessy split the posts from play. St Brigid’s first score couldn’t have been better as Amy Daly found the net for her side.

Hennessy got another point for Clough-Ballacolla, this time from a placed ball. Roisin O’Connell opened her tally for the contest with a score from a free. Hennessy replied with her third score of the game as St Brigid’s held a slender one-point lead.

O’Connell got her second point in as many minutes with another free. The game would soon be level as Katie Dooley pointed twice without reply after good play from Jenny Hyland for the first score while Hennessy was the maker of the second point.

The sides would go into the break level pegging as O’Connell and Hennessy traded frees with the score at 1-3 to 0-6. The second period started the same way as the first with Hennessy pointing another placed ball.

Costigan then opened her account for St Brigid’s with a point before she unleashed a cracking shot into the back of the Clough-Ballacolla net. O’Connell pointed another free as St Brigid’s now held a four-point advantage.

Their advantage would be cut to a single point with the next play as a super run from Paige Hyland ended with a super save from Anna Cribbin but Jenny Hyland was on hand to bury the rebound.

Costigan pointed another score for St Brigid’s as they took the game by the scruff of the neck. Teresa Bourke and three frees from O’Connell saw them hold a six-point lead with the clock ticking towards the end.

The next score was the surely the winner as Bourke rattled the back of the net. The game ended with another two scores for the victors as Costigan and Sinead Rafter both raised white flags.

St Brigid’s deserving winners in the end with their second-half scoring prowess securing the Junior League title.
