Portlaoise District Court
A suspended sentence was handed down to a man who hid cannabis in his underwear.
Damian Fiodorowicz, 40, of no fixed abode, Portlaoise, admitted to obstructing gardai and possessing drugs in Portlaoise on April 26 last.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the cannabis was valued at €20 and the defendant has 35 previous convictions.
He said the man was stopped by Gardai in St Brigid’s in Portlaoise and he dropped a quantity of drugs on the ground. He also put something in his underwear so gardai brought him to Portlaoise Garda Station.
“A container with cannabis herb was found in his underwear,” Sgt Kirby explained.
Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client had addiction issues and his life was “chaotic” at the time of offending.
Judge Andrew Cody imposed a two month sentence which he suspended for two years.
