A man who assaulted a female garda was told to have the remainder of €3,000 in court next week.
Bhuphinder Singh, 43, of Sarsfield Street, Mountmellick previously admitted assaulting a garda and threatening and abusive behaviour at Main Street, Portlaoise on September 8, 2021.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client had €2,000 in court but needed more time to gather the rest of the money.
“Is this the gent who assaulted a female Gardai,” asked Judge Andrew Cody. He noted the man had been stopped driving a 181 Mercedes before he pushed the garda against a wall.
“That is what he is driving,” said Ms Fitzpatrick.
“He is doing his best to get it together,” she said.
Judge Cody said he wanted the remainder of the €3,000 for a charity of the garda’s choosing by July 27. He adjourned the matter until then.
